Measure factory farming risk
Animal density helps investors compare farming businesses and determine investment risk
Global population and meat consumption continue to rise. An increased demand for animal livestock has led to intensive factory farming. 99% of US and 70% of global farm animals are ‘factory farmed’. In one example, we measured over 200,000 animals in a 2.5 sq. km farm. This intensity of farming has unwanted side effects.
Antibiotic over-use on livestock has increased resistance in humans. A growing consumer backlash on animal welfare poses an investment risk for agribusiness investors. Quantitatively minded investors are looking for objective and measurable metrics to screen and conduct due-diligence on agri-business opportunities.
